Panoramas of Habitats
Across Germany, there are 93 different habitat types that are protected under the Habitats Directive (FFH Directive). Over 50 of these habitat types, including their characteristic species, can be explored here through panoramic views.
The habitat types are categorized into the following categories:
- Coastal areas and salt-tolerant vegetation
- Coastal and inland dunes
- Freshwater habitats
- Temperate heath and shrub vegetation
- Sclerophyllous scrub (Matorrals)
- Natural or near-natural grasslands
- Bogs and fens
- Rocky habitats and caves
- Forests
In the drop-down menus of the panoramas, you will find in bold the characteristic indicator species and dominant species for each respective habitat type (reference lists according to BfN & Blak 2017, Ssymank et al. 2021 and 2022). Species that can be seen in the panoramas are marked with an asterisk (*).
