Nutrient Cycles
Abiotic ecosystem components, such as nutrient cycles and energy flows within a system, play a crucial role in shaping biodiversity. Particularly important abiotic components include nitrogen, phosphate, as well as water, carbon, and oxygen. Together with temperature and precipitation, these factors influence the productivity of an ecosystem, which is a key factor in determining the biological diversity of the respective ecosystem (Nentwig et al., 2011; Baur, 2021).
